The gym is a public space which means it’s not only you who uses the facility. You and other people who paid for the facilities are the one who use it. So major etiquettes should be followed when you’re inside one. Aside from toning abs, you should also start shaping your everyday gym manners. Below are some basic gym etiquettes every gym buffs should follow. If you cannot, then we advise that you get your own private Western Sydney Gym.
Returning equipment back to its original location
Yes you are paying the gym but that doesn’t mean that you will simply put those dumbbells in the floor once you are done using them. Put dumbbells back on the rack in the slots where they are supposed to be so that others can find them easily. If you leave the barbell or weights lying on the floor, you may get people trip over them. Don’t waste people’s time by being lazy of placing them back to their slots.
Sharing is caring
Learn how to share equipment. Do not hog the equipment, especially when there’s tons of people in the gym who’s about to use the same equipment. Don’t be the jerk in the gym who thinks that he or she owns the place. If you’re in the middle of a circuit but taking a short break, let others slip in between sets to save time.
On the other hand, it’s rude to rush others
Also, don’t rush others especially if you saw that they just began using the equipment. Simply watch them do their workouts, you might learn a thing or two. Or maybe you should start using other equipment and facilities until the other person is done.
Lower the volume of your music
Use earphones when you have one. Actually, you should always use earphones since you are in a public place. Yes, it’s fun to get pumped up by the music that you are always listening to, but remember that not everyone would like to hear the playlist that you have created for yourself. Lower the music and start feeling it just for your own personal use.
Don’t offer advice
We get it. You’re the master gym buff and you probably know every single workout in the world. But that doesn’t mean that the person next to you wants to hear what you have to say about his or her workout, or worse body. Everyone in the gym is there to improve themselves and sometimes you giving them advice can be taken in a wrong way. Keep your lips sealed and only answer if they ask you a question.
Dress appropriately
It is a gym which means we don’t expect anyone to arrive in their finest. But that doesn’t mean that anyone would like to see your yellowing short trunks and your sports bra that’s top tiny for your chest area. The gym isn't the place for women to show off their cleavage (always wear a well-supporting sports bra too), or for men to go shirtless (talk about spreading sweat and germs onto equipment).
Be hygienic
The gym is a place of sweat and grime and of course bad odor will always be there. Don’t add to the problem by having bad hygiene, meaning not wearing your deodorant. Always wear one before you come in and after your workout. Remember to shower after using the workout so that you won’t carry the stench outside.
Be nice to beginner. Do not laugh at others when they are not able to lift heavy weight or when they are not able to follow the steps in the class. Everyone has to start from somewhere.
